It is well known that fetal skin wound heals without leaving scar tissues. If we fully understand the differences between adult and fetal wound healing, we could mimic the scarless healing process to manage adult wounds, and it could be an ideal way for treatment. The three most significant differences are a short inflammatory phase; stable and non-hyperactive cells; and a constant optimal environment. We could minimize the wound size through reducing inflammation, stabilizing cells and maintaining environmental factors. And we expect that these principles will be practiced in treatment of various other tissue injuries. (J Korean Wound Management Soc 2009;5:11-27)
